Golden Eagle

Golden Eagle. By:

Banner stats and range map

Historic declines in Golden Eagle populations in North America have been considerably less significant than in parts of Europe, and the species is still fairly numerous in desert, mountain, and other open habitats. Nevertheless, the species has experienced past declines due to DDT use and agricultural expansion, and is now threatened by urban growth, toxins such as pesticides and lead in ammunition, and the proliferation of wind farms, where birds can collide with the spinning turbine blades. Collision with wind turbines has been particularly problematic at the massive Altamont wind facility in California.
