Mortality Threats to Birds - Collisions

In recent years, the problem of bird strikes with tall buildings, towers, wind turbines, and overhead powerlines has become of increasing concern to conservationists. Millions of birds - mostly night-migrating songbirds - die each year in collisions with such structures, including many species on ABC's Green List. Lighting on these structures - both for the purposes of aviation and decoration - appears to be a primary causal factor, and efforts have been made to limit or change lighting regimes to minimize the hazard.

American Bird Conservancy continues to be a leading force in ongoing efforts to protect birds from collisions, working with industry representatives, the federal government, and other conservation groups.
