Threats to Birds
Global Climate Change

In recent years, the issue of global climate change has risen to become one of the top environmental issues in the public's consciousness.

Much has been written and discussed about the need to curb greenhouse gas emissions and the potential consequences to the environment, particularly with regards to our own survival, if we fail to do so. ABC has conducted research in conjunction with partners to ascertain what the ongoing and potential future threats are to birds from rising global temperatures, and has published some reports detailing the concerns that have been revealed.

For a brief overview, read ABC's factsheet on Global Warming's Impact on Birds. For more detailed information, including scenarios for each U.S. state, read The BirdWatchers' Guide to Global Warming, produced in conjunction with the National Wildlife Federation.

Of course, in addition to alerting people to the potential problems, solutions are also essential. ABC also provides some background information on "Avoided Deforestation" as one useful tool in not only arresting global warming, but in saving some of the world's most imperiled biodiversity.
