Golden Winged-Warbler Project Announcements
Bids are being considered by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) for one project on the Beltrami County Three Island Park located 12 miles north of Bemidji, MN. The ABC is looking for contractors to complete non-commercial mechanical treatments (hydroaxe or brush-mowing) to create high quality young forest habitat according to the Golden Winged-Warbler Best Management Practices.
Existing Stand Conditions:
Stands are dominated by dense willow, alder and aspen species from 1-3” (a small amount of regeneration between 3-5” also to be removed) DBH with some residual mature aspen and oak (6+” DBH) interspersed. Residual trees and legacy patches will be retained as per the direction of the ABC project manager or Beltrami County Forester. Contracted labor is targeted for completion in February-March of 2014 under frozen ground conditions. Boundary lines and treatment areas will be marked via flagging tape or paint or project boundary shapefiles will be provided for use in a GPS unit.
