Project PredatorWatch
Still Active!
ABC’s Project PredatorWatch has been
up and running for over a year now, and has collected data
from over 860 entries, but we still need your help!
The Project
PredatorWatch survey, was designed to help determine the
extent of predation on birds at feeders and in backyards.
With your help, ABC has been able to gather data and information
critical for determining how many and what types of birds
are killed by cats, dogs, and other predators at feeders.
On the Project PredatorWatch survey site,
you can provide data that could help identify birds and other
wildlife species that are most affected by interactions with
cats and other predators such as hawks and foxes; determine
how predator/wildlife interactions are affected by season
or climate; ascertain differences between urban, suburban,
and rural environments; determine which species and what age
or sex are most vulnerable to predation; and determine to
what extent the characteristics of a cat (for example, whether
it’s spayed or neutered, size, color) influence its
predatory behavior. Complete a new survey every time you witness
a predator-wildlife interaction in your yard. Results may
be reported in scientific journals and other publications
and will be useful to scientists and conservationists.
