ABC Partner: Juan
Fernández Islands Conservancy
The objective of the Juan
Fernández Islands Conservancy is to protect the
long-term ecosystem health and vitality of the islands, a
small archipelago 700 km off the coast of Chile. The Conservancy
works through a combination of basic research, applied conservation,
and environmental education in active collaboration with local
residents.
Partnership Activities:
ABC has been working since 2003 with the Juan Fernandez Islands
Conservancy to develop a better understanding of the Juan
Fernández Firecrown, its population size and distribution,
and working to restore firecrown breeding habitat, reduce
the threats posed by mammalian predators, and enlist the support
of islanders in firecrown conservation. We have also worked
together on conservation of the Masafuera Rayadito.
