ABC
Programs
American Bird Conservancy broadly
divides its conservation activities into three divisions:
Domestic Habitat, Conservation Advocacy (also refered
to as Policy), and International. In addition, ABC's
Science and Monitoring staff play a key role in developing
the biological foundations on which much of today's
bird conservation efforts are based.
Despite these divisions, there is considerable
overlap in the work that each does. For example, work
to prevent further declines in the Cerulean
Warbler population involves Policy efforts to halt
mountaintop mining in the species' Appalachian breeding
grounds, Domestic Habitat efforts to reforest sites
in the same area, monitoring efforts to determine Cerulean
populations and trends, and conservation of habitat
on its wintering grounds.
In addition ABC leads and facilitates several alliances that multiply the effectiveness of individual conservation groups by bringing them together as a single voice on specific issues, both domestic and international.
