ABC's Domestic Habitat Programs
Site-Based Conservation

Ultimately, all on-the-ground conservation projects are local in nature. ABC is dedicated to the proposition, however, that all local projects should be conducted within the context a landscape vision, as described under the landscape conservation section. Each project should be designed to fulfill a component of broad bird conservation objectives, and the results and impacts of each project should be evaluated as to whether that contribution has been realized.

Over the course of time, ABC has been directly involved in a few domestic local projects, and intends to continue to do so into the future. However, we devote most of our resources to building partnerships with shared visions, and count on our partners to undertake on-the-ground projects. These partners involve federal and state agencies as well as large NGOs such as The Conservation Fund, or small NGOs such as local land trusts. Unlike ABC, these other organizations are structured to protect and manage land, and we rely on them through their associations with Joint Ventures.

ABC is playing a stronger role in local projects than in the past, and we intend to continue building our capacity domestically to assist partners in achieving our ultimate conservation objectives.
