Breakdown of Global IBAs by Selection Criteria

Site Breakdown by Selection Criteria IBAs were selected for any of four criteria 1. The presence of significant population(s) of Endangered or Threatened Species, 2. The presence of significant population(s) of birds on the Partners in Flight (PIF) Watch List, 3. The presence of significant population(s) of species with restricted ranges, and 4. The presence of significant concentrations of migratory birds. Some sites qualify as a Globally Important Bird Area under more than one category, e.g. Everglades National Park is an IBA because it contains significant populations of colonial nesting waterbirds and the Endangered Wood Stork. These sites were included in each category for the purposes of the above chart.
